Purpose
The objective of the course is to give the student a comprehensive insight into Faroese law on copyright.
Content
Copyright law is about the legal position of creators and rights. The course offers a comprehensive introduction to the field of copyright law, and it’s boundaries against other fields of intellectual property law, such as trademarks, patent rights and design rights. The course will cover what a work is that is entitled to protection, different kinds of works, and what constitutes originality. Further, the course also deals with when one can talk about copyright infringement, and the demarcation between inspiration and plagiarism. In addition, the limits of copyright will be explored. Given the fact that copyright law is a business law discipline, the course will also deal with copyright contracts, how copyright law is dealt with in employment contracts and on the labour market, and what the copyright owner can do in order to enforce his rights, fx demand payment, compensation, destruction etc.
Learning and teaching approaches
Approx. 40 hours of student time confrontation. The teaching consists of lectures, critical discussions, work in groups, student presentations and other forms of active student centered learning.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the students shall be able to: - describe bacic concepts in copyright law, such as the concept of originality and the concept of work and demonstrate the ability to understand the relevance of differentiating between different kind of works. - describe copyright infringement and explain the difference between inspiration and plagiarism. - explain contracts on and transference of copyrigths. - desribe legal demands and requirements relevant for copyright law in employment and labour market context. - explain the limits to and exceptions to copyrights law. - identify relevant problems concerning copyright law in real life cases and independently and critically evaluate and suggest relevant solutions. - Present and formulate knowledge and arguments in copyright law in a correct manner both orally and in writing.
Assessment method
A multiple-choice exam in the middle of the course will count for 25% of the grade, and a written 24 hours take home exam at the end of the course will count for 75 % of the grade. A precondition for passing the overall course is that the student has passed both exam components.

Additional course materials, such as academic articles and judgments, will be available prior to teaching on the Moodle network.
