Corpus of Faroese
The Corpus of Faroese contains material documenting spoken and written Faroese, both old and new. The corpus gradually grows with the addition of new samples from books, newspapers and magazines as well of spoken language.
Older word usage is better documented than modern usage.
This Corpus is the basis for dictionaries of Faroese. Furthermore, it is an important source in research related to the Faroese language. According to calculations from April 2002, there are approximately 578,000 citation slips in the Corpus, arranged into 98 citation slip boxes in fireproof storage at the Faculty of Faroese Language and Literature.
The Corpus is partially machine-readable. The material used for the Faroese dictionary and contained in the dictionary software RIST has been computerized.
Project progress
Work is underway to digitize all citation slips in 2012.
