MA studies
Studying for an MA takes two years (120 ECTS). Successfully completing the MA earns students the degree of Master of Arts (magister artium). High marks in the MA programme afford the opportunity to undertake a PhD programme. The Faculty offers two different MA programmes: a Combined MA and the MA in Faroese.
Combined MA
The Combined MA takes a total of five and a half years (330 ECTS). This is an upper secondary school teacher’s qualification programme, comprised of a major subject and a minor subject, as well as educational theory and practice:
Major
- BA degree, 3 years of study (180 ECTS)
- Main thesis, ½ year of study (30 ECTS)
Minor
- 2 years of study (120 ECTS) in another subject. (A minor in Faroese is the equivalent of the first two years of the mandatory BA curriculum in Faroese.)
- Educational Theory and Practice. A course in education arranged by the employing authority (The Faroese Ministry of Education, Research and Culture or the hiring school).
In the Combined MA, Faroese may be either the major or the minor subject. This degree qualifies graduates to teach two subjects in upper secondary school.
