Information for applicants

The degree programmes at the University of the Faroe Islands are of international standard and provide a unique opportunity to study in a student-centered environment and to shape the academic discussions. The Faculty offers lectures framed by Faroese nature, business, industry and society as a whole.

The teaching and learning approaches are usually organized with lectures in the morning and theoretical and practical exercises in the afternoon. Teaching is partly organized as group work. Fieldwork may take several whole days, in some cases it will include overnight stays. In lectures, issues related to Faroese nature and society will be discussed.

After completing their bachelor’s degree, some students choose to start work directly, while others continue their studies at universities abroad. Some of our graduates have decided to continue their education with MSc or PhD post-graduate degrees in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, UK and USA. Studying for a PhD at our Faculty may also be an option.

Our Faculty is the only institution offering higher education with emphasis on the Faroese nature and environment. This insight is valuable in professional life, particularly for those who want to work in the Faroese society.

Small educational establishments have a more intimate learning environment than larger ones. There are no great distances between lecturers and students at our Faculty. The social transition from upper secondary education to university is easier than when starting directly at a large university. Nevertheless, the academic transition is every bit as exciting as it is at big universities.
