New Dean at the Department of History and Social Sciences

On January 1st, 2024, Erika Anne Hayfield will become Dean of the Department of History and Social Sciences at the University of the Faroe Islands

The Rector of the University of the Faroe Islands, Martin Tvede Zachariasen has announced that Erika Anne Hayfield will be new Dean of the Department of History and Social Sciences.

Erika Anne Hayfield has worked at the University for the past ten years, initially as an assistant professor, then as a lecturer and researcher, and for the last three years, she has also been Vice Dean of the Department of History and Social Sciences.

Erika Anne Hayfield holds a Ph.D. from Edinburgh Napier University, along with several master's courses in leadership.

Before joining the University, she worked, among other places, at the Ministry of Labor and in the private sector.

In the public sphere, Erika Anne Hayfield is known as an active voice in discussions, having led many projects and authored reports and scientific articles.

At the University of the Faroe Islands, there are five departments, and with Erika Anne Hayfield's appointment, two of them are now under the leadership of female Deans.

Erika Anne Hayfield takes over the duties from Hans Andrias Sølvará, who has overseen it since 2010 and has now chosen to step down. Hans Andrias Sølvará will continue in his role as a Professor in the Department of History and Social Sciences.

The Dean position was internally advertised, and the Board of the University of the Faroe Islands has approved the appointment.
