University degrees

The University of the Faroe Islands offers a number of degree programmes at its five different faculties. The University awards three types of degrees: 

Bachelor degrees are awarded after three years of study. BA is the bachelor degree title awarded in the field of humanities, it is an abbreviation of Bachelor of Arts. BEd is the bachelor degree title awarded in the field of education, it is an abbreviation of Bachelor of Education.  BSSc is the bachelor degree title awarded in the field of political science, it is an abbreviation of Bachelor of Social Science. BSc is the bachelor degree title awarded in the field of natural sciences and it is an abbreviation of Bachelor of Science.

Master degrees build on bachelor level qualifications and are awarded after two years of study. MA is the master degree title awarded in the field of humanities, it is an abbreviation of Master of Arts. MSSc is the master degree title awarded in the field of political science, it is an abbreviation of Master of Social Science. MSc is the master degree title awarded in the field of natural sciences and it is an abbreviation of Master of Science.

Ph.D. – short for Philosophiae Doctor – is a three-year research degree, which culminates in the defence of a doctoral thesis on the topic the doctoral candidate has researched over the three years of study.
