The Board for the University of the Faroe Islands 2025–2028

With the term for the Board of the University of the Faroe Islands ending at the new year, a new board has been appointed for the period January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2028.

The University of the Faroe Islands is governed by a board, which is the highest authority of the institution and holds responsibility for its operations on behalf of the Minister of Education.

According to Article 9 of Parliamentary Act No. 58 of June 9, 2008, as amended by Parliamentary Act No. 51 of May 8, 2012, the board is appointed by the Minister, who selects seven board members and seven alternates for a four-year term, except for the representative of the students, who is appointed annually.

In accordance with § 9, paragraph 2, board members and alternates are appointed as follows:

Four members and four alternates are appointed externally at the discretion of the Minister.

Two members and two alternates are appointed based on recommendations from the permanent staff at the University of the Faroe Islands.

One member and one alternate are appointed based on recommendations from the students.

The external members must hold a university degree or equivalent qualification and collectively possess substantial knowledge and expertise in university education and research, as well as leadership experience in both business and administration.

The composition of the board is as follows:

Alternate: Steinbjørn Hardlei, Project Manager for the Child Welfare Project
Niels Winther, CEO of House of Industry
Alternate: Birita Wardum, City Architect for Tórshavn Municipality
Anders Bjarklev, Rector of the Technical University of Denmark (reappointed)
Alternate: Elena D’Amelio, Professor of Media Studies at the University of San Marino and expert in the European Higher Education Area
Elaine Munthe, Dean of the Knowledge Center for Education and Professor of Education at the University of Stavanger (reappointed)
Alternate: Ragnheiður H. Magnúsardóttir, CEO of Maggar in Iceland and expert in technology and entrepreneurship

Annika Helgadóttir Davidsen, Assistant Professor in Psychology, Department of Health and Nursing Science
Alternate: Sigurd Christiansen, Assistant Professor in Chemistry, Department of Natural Sciences
Sonja Olsen, Ph.D. Researcher in Education, Department of Education
Alternate: Regin Djurhuus Hammer, Ph.D. Researcher in Economics, Department of History and Social Sciences

Harriet Felicia Reistad Dam, student in the Department of Natural Sciences
Alternate: Sigmund Zachariassen, student in the Department of History and Social Sciences

The new board will convene for its first meeting on February 13, 2025.
